Softened Water Healthy For Hands

washing hands

Not only do moisturised hands feel great, but they look younger too! Research has shown that dry, otherwise healthy hands, are perceived to be, on average, nine years older than their actual age.

So, why do we get dry hands? The drying effects of the winter weather certainly add to the problem and at this time of year existing skin conditions can worsen considerably while even those who normally have well moisturised skin, can suffer from the discomfort of dry, rough patches and chapped and cracked skin.

How Softened Water is Healthy for Your Hands

The water you use can also cause the symptoms of dry skin.

Research has shown that hard water damages the protective layer on the skin, leaving it prone to dryness, whereas softened water preserves this protective layer, and helps to retain moisture. In addition, hard water contains excessive calcium and magnesium, which make it difficult to wash the soap away from your hands. After washing with hard water, the soap scum left on your hands leaves your skin dry, lifeless and prone to all the added symptoms of dry skin.

Whilst it would be better to cut down the build up of scum on your skin by using use less soap, this isn’t necessarily possible when we all need to wash our hands thoroughly.

The best way to avoid hard water damage to our skin is by installing a water softener.

By using softened water in your home, you can reduce the dryness in your skin and preserve the protective layer that enables your skin to retain moisture.

It is difficult for even the best moisturising cream to eliminate the effects of hard water on our skin, but we can choose healthy, fresh and clean and younger-looking skin when we choose to use softened water.

Water Softening Award for Pureflow for 2019

Water Softener Experts Christchurch Pureflow Water Systems Minimax Dealer Awards

At Pureflow we were recently delighted to win another annual award for water softener sales.

We get enormous pleasure when our customers tell us, sometimes just two or three weeks after fitting, and sometimes after years of enjoying their softening systems, how delighted they are with the softener that we supplied. On a number of occasions, we have been told that the improvement has been life-changing with not just limescale eliminated but with their dry skin issues resolved. This makes supplying the units and fitting them neatly, a great job to have.

Sometimes when talking to a customer who has bought a house with one of our softening systems we surprise them when we explain how the machine works, in particular that the salt that they put into the machine only cleans the filters and doesn’t enter the water to their home, as they had imagined the water passed through the salt tank and into their home and actually softened the water in that way. They are pleased and reassured to establish that salt is only for regeneration of each filter, after it has softened 500 litres of hard water, as it then disconnects from the home feed during its cleaning cycle.

We always ensure that we provide every customer with all the information they require when we first meet, and allow enough time to provide the perfect carefully planned installation. This leads to happy customers that often introduce us to neighbours or family or friends interested in the benefits of softened water.

As a result of our customers’ enthusiasm, together with our constant focus to offer very competitive price and using the best quality installation parts, such as stainless steel braided hoses, that we have received acknowledgment of our Minimax water softener sales for most of the last 16 years as the photograph indicates. Thank you to everyone.

Do you have stains on your dark coloured sink?

Hard water scale, being of chalk and limestone, is light in colour, and it forms an unattractive layer on sinks, drainers and taps from hard water use.

It is most unattractive on dark sinks / drainers and we are pleased to say changing to softened water dissolves away all the deposits that have formed permanently, taking your sink back to completely scale free.

If not, the scale stays and builds up, after a short while the white coloured scale takes on the tea and coffee colours that pass over it during washing up! Ending up looking even less and less attractive.

Softened water keeps your sink looking like the day it was fitted, and is much more hygienic as scale is porous and potentially creates a breeding ground for bacteria, and potentially the same hygiene hazard for bathroom shower heads, when they scale up.

Softened water completely resolves this problem & improves so much more in your home.

How does limescale affect boilers?

Your boiler’s life span and the efficiency are greatly reduced by hard water scale build-up.

Boiler life is reduced because the build-up of scale is inside the heat exchanger, this causes the metal heat exchanger to overheat as the flow of water through it is reduced by scale. This overheating damages the boiler and reduces its life, often referred to as ‘Kettling’.

Your boiler’s efficiency relies on the heat from the gas, oil fuel or electricity passing through the heat exchanger and into the water. However, as a layer of hard water scale forms inside, it is an insulator and passes less and less through to the water as the scale thickness increases, up to half a millimetre per year is not an un-common build-up.

By fitting a water softening system to an existing boiler, it gently dissolves away all of the scale build-up and takes the boiler back to full efficiency.

Hard water and Exczema

Skin becomes dry and itchy from the soapy residue that hard water leaves on your body.

It is estimated that as many as 20% of children suffer from eczema as well as many adults suffering from uncomfortable dry skin conditions.

The scum from hard water not only sucks moisture out of your skin , but also clogs pores, which can also lead to acne.

Hard water is especially problematic for people who have skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. Soft water is an effective preventative measure that greatly reduces skin irritation and dryness.
